Organon is a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Oss, Netherlands that is part of Akzo Nobel.

Organon deals in the following core therapeutic fields: reproductive medicine, contraception, psychiatry, HRT and anesthesia. Organon sells to international markets.

Organon was founded by Dr. Saal van Zwanenberg in Oss, the Netherlands, in 1923 as Zwanenberg-Organon. Its first product was insulin. In the thirties it manufactured estrogens. The production of cortison was initiated in 1953. The now named Koninklijke Zwanenberg-Organon (KZO) fused with the fiber producer AKU in 1969 to become AKZO, later Akzo Nobel. Organon is the human health care business unit of Akzo Nobel and transferred its headquarters to the USA while the main headquarter of Akzo Nobel remains in Arnhem. Manufacturing facilities are in the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, and the USA.

Products include: Remeron, Remeron SolTab, Sustanon, Deca-Durabolin, Pregnyl, Implanon, NuvaRing and a variety of other contraceptive products.

On March 12, 2007, Schering Plough announced its intention to acquire Organon BioSciences for € 11 billion. During the course of several months the necessary approvals have been granted by the EU (amongst others). Organon is now a part of the Schering Plough corp.^[1]
