Dow Chosen as Key Supplier for Largest Desalination Project in World

30 Sep 2003 - The Dow Chemical Company announced that FILMTEC(TM) reverse osmosis (RO) membrane elements have been chosen for the largest desalination project in the world. The OTID Consortium, made up of Vivendi Group and IDE Technologies Ltd., selected FILMTEC RO elements for a seawater desalination plant located at the Asheklon site of the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Corporation in Israel. The Water and Desalination Authority (WDA) of Israel will benefit from this initiative, using the treated water to supplement and upgrade the existing potable municipal water supply in this region with extremely dry conditions and limited fresh water resources.
 
The Askhelon plant will desalinate 100 million m3 of water per year. The facility will commence production of Phase I in 2004 and Phase II in 2005. FILMTEC RO elements were selected to meet the challenges of the Ashkelon project, specifically lower pressure operation, continuous operation, continuous operation at high pH (up to 10.8), the highest boron rejection, and the most consistent product quality due to automated manufacturing and process control.
