Thermal oxidation stability of poly‐α‐olefin lubricating oil


By simulating high‐temperature and high‐pressure operating conditions of an aviation engine using an autoclave, we studied the physicochemical properties and tribological behaviors of poly‐α‐olefin base oil samples during thermal oxidation at different temperatures. According to Fourier transform infrared spectrometric and gas chromatography/mass spectrometric analyses, at high temperatures the oil was oxidatively degraded to a large number of low‐molecular‐mass compounds, which influenced the viscosity, acidity, and antiwear property of the oil. © 2017 Curtin University and John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
