English learning for Chemical Industry Managers

Specialised language courses for the Chemical Industry

11.03.2003
The Isle of Wight, an Island in the English Channel off the Southern coast of England, is the interesting location of a small Training institute specialising in technical English courses for the German chemical industry. The training programme consists of two elements. On first contact, the language and job needs are analysed and then a learning programmed is designed. based on input from a team of qualified English language trainers who are also specialists in specific areas, including engineering commerce, industry, technology, law and science. A further vital ingredient at Island English Courses is that each participant receives individual lessons. 'We have already trained many leading personnel from companies such as BASF and its subsidiaries, who would willingly vouch for our effectiveness,' said Christine Petters, BA Hons, DipTEFL, MIL, Cert.Ed, proprietor of Island English Courses. 'Over many years of close contact with companies in the chemical industry, we have developed specific programmes for scientific, technical and commercial staff.' After being responsible for English language training at Deutsche Bank, London, Mrs. Petters worked together with the Fraunhofer Institut, Stuttgart, designing technical English courses in London for groups of managers, engineers and technicians.. 'I learned then that it is very important to offer courses that are not only language-specific but also job-specific,' she said. 'Finally, by concentrating our resources within this field, we are able to offer courses at fair prices - a major factor in the current economic climate.'
