Air Liquide strengthens its position in the Nordic countries

29.08.2003

Air Liquide has recently signed two major agreements which significantly reinforce its position in the Nordic countries, a promising area for its industrial as well as medical activities.

In Norway, Air Liquide has signed a new 15 year contract with the OUTOKUMPU Group, a leading Finnish zinc producer, to provide oxygen to their OUTOKUMPU NORZINC AS plant near Bergen. The contract will start in September 2004, and should reach a full capacity of about 55000 tons of oxygen per year. Air Liquide is already a partner of the OUTOKUMPU Group for their operations in Finland.

In Finland, Air Liquide has taken full ownership of the capital of its Finnish subsidiary Polargas by acquiring the remaining 30% minority shares from the Kemira Group, a specialty chemicals company with whom Air Liquide has a long standing partnership. Polargas supplies air gases and related services mainly to metal, pulp and paper, food and chemical industries, including Kemira with whom gas supply contracts have just been renewed.
